Norwich finished the season with a 42-12 win over Ithaca last night, once again in the pouring rain. That didn’t deter die-hard Tornado fans who once again braved the wet weather. Jesse scored the first touchdown of the game and Mom was so proud, doing her famous point and yell, “That’s My Son!”
Tempers flared and I honestly have never seen such poor, unsportsmanlike behavior like I saw last night. There was much shirt grabbing and ripping, face-mask yanking and at one point head punching which lead to a player being thrown out of the game. Unfortunately, all the negative behavior came from the Ithaca players and I was embarrassed to witness athletes behaving so badly. I’m not sure where all the anger was coming from but it really worked against Ithaca. I’ll post a link to the highlights and post some pictures when I get them together.
Former New York City Mayor and Republican Presidential candidate, Rudy Giuliani has recently been a hot topic in the news lately. Not for his Presidential campaign but for something much more sinister. Apparently Rudy has decided to hire his “good friend”, Monsignor Alan Placa to work in his consulting firm. What could be wrong or sinister with hiring a man of god? Perhaps the fact that the good Monsignor has been accused by several former students and altar boys of molesting them during the 1970’s.
When asked how he could hire an accused sexual predator he replied, “I know the man; I know who he is, so I support him,” Giuliani said. “We give some of the worst people in our society the presumption of innocence and benefit of the doubt,” he said. “And, of course, I’m going to give that to one of my closest friends.” Mr. Giuliani has obviously not been watching Dateline’s “To Catch A Predator” or he would realize that child molesters come disguised as friends, family members, clergy, teachers and other seemingly innocent individuals. Shame on you Mr. Giuliani for not even have the common sense to investigate the charges against the Monsignor before hiring and defending him. I hope voters will remember this when it comes time to choose a new President.
Despite the downpours and strong winds Norwich won their final game against Windsor last night with a final score of 28-0. Jesse had total of 120 yrds with 4 carries and scored a 58 yard touchdown. Purple couldn’t be stopped! What a great way to top off the season and Senior Night. I, along with all the other parents of senior players went out on the field, were announced and given flowers by our sons. And I didn’t even cry once! Fighting the rain and trying very hard not to poke someone’s eye out with my flailing umbrella had me preoccupied. I’ll post pictures so everyone can see them as soon as have them.
Claire loves to dance. She has loved music since she was a tiny infant. One of her favorite CDs for dancing to is my Stevie Wonder’s greatest hits CD. Maybe that’s because it was one of the CDs that I listened to while in labor with her.
As soon as she hears music, her body begins to move – she just can’t sit still. Here’s a clip of her from today, dancing to Stevie Wonder and making herself dizzy.
I have several other video clips here, on you tube:
Tonight is Senior Night and the last football game of the season. It’ll be bitter sweet. This is my baby’s very last H.S. football game and I’ll get the chance to stand on the field and show him how proud I am in front of everyone in the stands. How fast the time has flown by.
It’s pouring rain and it’s supposed to get very stormy with damaging winds and thunder and lightening. What a shame the weather didn’t cooperate, but we’ve certainly been lucky up to this point. I’ll post later and tell how Senior Night went and whether or not I cried
Norwich’s Homecoming game was played before the largest home-crowd of the season. It was an exciting, energy charged group of fans that encouraged our hometeam to shut Oneonta out with the final score 12 - 0. ESPN was there to broadcast the game and support for the Purple Tornado was at an all-time high. I couldn’t be prouder of my football player! What a night!
If and when anyone other than I post on our family blog *sigh* I wanted to be sure you take advantage of tags and categories. This is an invaluable way for readers and searchers to find you post. In order to add tags simply go to the box located directly to right of your “write page” (the place you write your blog drafts) and type in key words that relate to your post and then click “add”. For example, I will tag this particular post with: blogging, tags, writing, categories and subject search. Try to keep your tags down to no more than 6. You’ll begin to see more hits on your site with tagged blogs because this exposes your blog to many more views. You can still add tags to existing posts by going to “manage” and then click edit on the post you wish to add tags to. Then go ahead and add your tags and save. You have something to say and having other people read it is always a good thing.
So, we went to Brockport yesterday. It took us just under 4 hours to get there (and that was stopping for gas and a potty break). Not so bad then. Although it’s still Upstate NY, it’s a bit different than our area in that it was freezingly cold and less mountainess than here. We have the rolling Adirondack Mountains in our backyard. But Brockport pretty much still has the small town atmosphere that I love so much.
The Brockport football team is HUGE. Not really in player size, I was surprised that the players generally look about the size of our boys. The team consists of 99 players and that, to me, is incredible. But I’m told that’s the way it is in college football. The final score was 21 to 20, so that made it exciting for both my boys.
After the game we were led into a much warmer inside area and shown the weight room. Of course I was the only mom who had come along and I felt slightly uncomfortable, but proud that I was there with my son as his sole parent. Eventually, the trip into the locker room had arrived and I was politely asked to sit that one out. Afterwards, the prospective players were given a chance to sit in a classroom and fill out some additional questionaires and forms. A very nice gentlemen took pity on me and sat in the hallway and discussed his experiences with the team and his sons. Apparently both his boys were fairly recent graduates from Brockport who had remained to become coaches. This alone told me alot about Suny Brockport and I learned more from my brief conversation with this proud dad than any tour could possibly have provided. Thank you Proud Dad!
Although Brockport is a SUNY school, it is fairly small, which is something I like in a college. Since Jesse has never said anything about feeling stifled about living or learning in a small-town environment (very much unlike his older brother who enjoys a big-city life) I’m thinking it might be a good fit for him. There’s still time to narrow down choices and visit other schools, but this was a nice way to kick off the college visiting experience. Next stop, Ithaca and then on to Harwick.
